Nursery Intent
In the Nursery Room we provide an enabling environment that is warm, calming, and supportive. Our focus is to build strong foundations so that the children can grow their skills, knowledge and understanding. We support each child individually providing opportunities and experiences for them to listen, speak and become confident in their independence. Our priority areas of learning and Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development, although activities will reflect all 7 areas of learning.
The children will:
•Join in with singing and actions to familiar songs and rhymes
•Use pointing and gesture to communicate their interests and wants
•Understand simple instructions
•Try a wider range of foods, textures and tastes
•Develop likes and dislikes
•Establish their sense of self and express their own preferences
•Thrive as they develop self-assurance and grow in independence whilst playing alongside others
•Have favourite books
•Repeat words and phrases
•Build with a range of resources and complete inset puzzles
•Explore materials with different properties, using their senses to investigate
•Express ideas and feelings through mark making and sometimes give meaning to the marks that they make
•Start to develop pretend play, pretending one object represents another
